Today in Wellesbourne and the surrounding area there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, those experiencing a sudden crisis – redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill, it can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent or eating.
The great news is that the Fosse foodbank can help. It is based at Kineton but has a centre in Wellesbourne and we are affiliated to Trussell - a national foodbank network.
Foodbanks help individuals and families in crisis, through the provision of carefully selected emergency food supplies. This is a short-term measure giving some breathing space in times of crisis. Foodbank volunteers also take the time to listen and signpost clients to further support. These services help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss, crime and mental health problems.
We work with local professional such as Citizens Advice, social workers, health, school, Job Centre, P3 (preventing homelessess) and the churches, to name a few. Any of these agencies can issue a food voucher to the Wellesbourne foodbank which is based at the Methodist Church although run by St Peter’s Church. Once a voucher has been received, the client is invited to come and collect their appropriately sized food box which will last three days. If the need arises a delivery can be made.
