Introduction
St Peter’s have created a new Garden of Remembrance in the Churchyard Extension bordered by a box hedge for the interment of ashes. Interment of ashes started in this section in 2013.
Design: We have designed a circular garden with a henge of standing stone tablet memorials. Families can choose a simple unmarked interment, or they can have the name and dates of their loved one inscribed on the tablet nearest the plot. The tablets will be erected as needed gradually forming the circle.
Procedure: Ashes are poured directly into the ground into a circular hole in a grid pattern radiating outwards from each stone and inwards towards the centre of the circle. There is nothing on the ground to mark the spot, but, unlike the previous Garden of Remembrance near the Kings Head, a plan is kept showing the location of each interment. The memorial stone tablet with the names and dates of those interred in the sector inside and outside that stone will be erected when there are enough inscriptions to fill both sides of the tablet (roughly two years). In the meantime an interim memorial displays the names of those interred. Tributes: Pots for flowers are placed by the memorial as in the previous Garden. We ask families to place natural flowers (wrappers removed) in these pots (not on the grass). Please don’t leave artificial flowers or ornaments.
Guide: A Guide to Memorial Options can be found here: Memorial Guide
Costs: The interment fee is set by the Church of England (including preparation of the plot). The memorial fee covers the cost of the portion of stone and the inscription. It is likely to be of the order of £250-£350 (including the interment fee) depending on the length of inscription.
Contact: for more information, or to arrange an interment, contact St Peter’s Memorial Team 01789 841359 or email st.p.wellesbourne@gmail.com. The ashes will be interred at a time to suit you in a short Christian ceremony conducted by one of our Ministers.
