Did you know that 1 in 5 people in the UK are living below the poverty line. Today in Wellesbourne and the surrounding area there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crises – redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill- can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating.
The great news is that from 19th July help will now be available in Wellesbourne. The Fosse foodbank warehouse based in Kineton, working in partnership with the Trussell Trust national foodbank network, is opening a new foodbank distribution centre in Wellesbourne with the help of a team of people in the village pulled together by St. Peters church.
Foodbanks help individuals and families in crises, through the provision of carefully selected emergency food supplies as a short-term measure allowing a breathing space at times of great need. They also take the time to listen and signpost people to further support. These services help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss, crime and mental health problems.
We work with local professional care workers who refer people, with a food voucher, to the foodbank which will be based at Sure Start in the Library.
This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to and support local well-being in a simple practical way. So, how can you help:
